CymSTAR Participates in the University of Tulsa (TU) Unmanned Aircraft Competition
October 11, 2017

On August 25-27, The University of Tulsa Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering hosted TU’s first Green Country Unmanned Aircraft System Competition. CymSTAR is a key innovator in the simulation industry, a local sponsor for development of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs at the high school and college levels, and a proud employer of many TU business/management, accounting, computer science, information systems, and engineering graduates. Due to our long-term relationship with the faculty and students of the TU Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, CymSTAR participated in the UAV Competition by providing a Software Engineer, Electrical Engineer, and an Engineering Technician to serve as judges for the event.

Teams from 14 Oklahoma and Dallas high schools and colleges competed in a package delivery event requiring drones to fly a package from its source over obstacles to a destination where the package was delivered before returning to the start line. Teams either built their own drones or purchased drones off the shelf. Judges evaluated and scored the teams on safety, round trip travel and teamwork.

The Unmanned Aircraft Competition was very successful, and the TU ECE Department and students plan to continue the annual competition and expand participation. As a leader in the simulation industry, CymSTAR will continue to explore UAV initiatives to evolve this technology for multiple applications.
